What is Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)?
Mindfulness is a form of meditation that focuses on accepting the present moment as it is, without judgement. Meditation has been utilized for thousands of years in Eastern practices.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a research backed therapeutic lens that focuses on observing thoughts, exploring where they originated from, processing them, and learning new thoughts.
The synthesis of Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy allows for observing ourselves in a curious, objective way. We observe how our thoughts impact our emotions, which impacts our overall wellbeing. Mindfulness provides space for this process to be done in a way that disempowers our thoughts and increases our awareness of ourselves and our ability to shift our thoughts.

Many of the tools focus on the mind-body connection. Turning our focus to our breath is a simple and scientifically proven way to decrease stress in real time.
A lot of the time, we do not realize how much tension we are holding in our bodies, and how that correlates with our moods. Becoming aware of this connection allows for realizing how we are impacted by our minds and bodies. We can choose to acknowledge these signs and make immediate change to our wellbeing.
